As the sole proprietor of the Law Office of Joan D. Clay, from 2005 to present, Attorney Clay advises clients in the areas of real estate and business law.

She drafts, reviews and negotiates real estate contracts and represents buyers and sellers at residential and commercial real estate closings. In addition to closings, Attorney Clay provides full service real estate litigation in such areas as building code violations, forcible entry and detainer matters, contractor-developer matters and mortgage fraud cases. She also represents clients in foreclosures and short sales and drafts and reviews commercial leases.

Attorney Clay’s other area of practice is business law. She advises clients on entity formation, completes and files the appropriate forms, and drafts and reviews corporate resolutions, operating agreements and partnership agreements.

She also reviews and drafts employment contracts, non-compete agreements, marketing materials, business plans and the like. Attorney Clay advises clients on the day to day issues they face in running their businesses.

Attorney Clay served as an arbitrator for Cook County and is an Adjunct Professor at Kaplan University and MacCormac College in Chicago, Illinois. Most recently she was a Visiting Assistant Clinical Professor and Director of the Mortgage Foreclosure Clinic at Touro Law Center in New York.
